Every individual has the right to have his/her legal identity recognized.

Interpretation
This article guarantees the right to recognition of legal personality. This right is foundational for exercising all other rights and is enshrined in Article 6 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 3 of the American Convention on Human Rights. The Constitutional Court has linked this right to civil registration and gender identity (T-063/2015), allowing transgender individuals to correct their identification documents.
